Poole Week 2010
Poole Week racing at Parkstone Yacht Club was a resounding success and enjoyed enormously by all those who took part. Eight disabled members and 22 helpers worked hard to deliver our new Hawk " Blue Dolphin", our Wayfarer "Blue Whale" and safety boat "Lyn J", compete fiercely in the racing for 5 days, and return the fleet safely to our base at Rockley.
Battling strong winds, confused seas, spray, rain and bad visibility on the Sunday our crews gained us a lot of respect by finishing the course when many other boats pulled out, capsized or failed to complete. The conditions improved on the following days with pleasant sunshine and Fair breezes to give us some exciting racing.
Overall our Hawk gained 8th place out of 20 in the Handicap class. A fantastic result for all the crews concerned. Despite some excellent sailing performances the Wayfarer came 15th out of 19, but this was to be expected as our boat is a much older and slower design than most of the others being entered, and does not have a spinnaker. These were results to be very proud of.
We were made most welcome by the Parkstone members, and given a lot of help on and off the water. The social events each evening were equally enjoyable and were well supported by Sailability members.

Well done to everyone.
Anna Moorland.
